One thing they're certainly doing (and have been doing) in Old Port Portland: turning it into a tourist destination, and the cruise ships will not be far behind (f they're not already there). Wilfrid
Grew up with it. Fresh, battered as an alternative to cod in fish’n’chip shops, or smoked and topped with a poached egg.

Gotta be good smoked, right? Do (or did) the fish'n'chip shops have to tell you the type of fish they were frying, or could they just call it fish?
Wilfrid
Smoked haddock was a home cooked staple, topped with a poached egg. Fish ‘n’chip shops typically offered cod, haddock, rock salmon (or rock eel), as well as fish cakes and non-fish battered saveloys, sausages and burgers. Never just “fish.”
voyager
I LOVE smoked haddock. A riverside restaurant in Fall River, MA, served a smoked haddock chowder that broke your heart. I love it creamed over baked potato with chopped sweet onion Or of course in fishcakes. I only wish I could source it here, but there is no commercial interest in haddock either fresh or smoked. Which annoys N to no end, having, like Wilfrid, grown up on haddock.

Sneakeater
When I got to the Greemarket this morning, the market had been reconfigured—and the RAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMPPPPPPPPP vendor wasn’t there. YIKES. Then I noticed some in some boxes at the back of the table of the maple syrup vendor (of all people). SAVE.
Sneakeater
I see they have some at Union Market. But they’re charging almost as much as @voyager’s corner store.
