monkeymay
She could probably make El Monte sound inviting. Well, El Monte is where James Ellroy's mother was murdered. Look what it did for him. But seriously, I love my town. I'm third generation LA, and fourth generation film biz. There's so much here that very few see, the whole Day of the Locust underbelly I find facinating. West, Bukowski, Ellroy, Chandler, my own crazy family's stories - that's the LA I know. It's a far more interesting view than the boob job/butt floss glitter spin usually applied to this city. You've just got to open your eyes.

The Scream
Well, El Monte is where James Ellroy's mother was murdered. Look what it did for him. But seriously, I love my town. I'm third generation LA, and fourth generation film biz. There's so much here that very few see, the whole Day of the Locust underbelly I find facinating. West, Bukowski, Ellroy, Chandler, my own crazy family's stories - that's the LA I know. It's a far more interesting view than the boob job/butt floss glitter spin usually applied to this city. You've just got to open your eyes. Boob jobs and glitter are what I was referring to when I mentioned 'newbies.' I just get sick and tired of hearing about these revelations from 'just got off the bus from Idaho' types who follow the LA Weekly as if it were gospel and wipe their asses and mouths (in that order) with the latest trendy rags and think they know about LA neighborhoods. Unless it's to SF I'm not moving out of LA to another American city. Maybe Manhattan if a job offer of at least 2 million a year came in. (I hope I didn't offen any newcomers to LA. )
monkeymay
Just got this email - This sounds like a hoot: Greetings Dear Fiends, We wanted to let all of our Los Angeles locals know about a special screening of the Ramones classic film "Rock andRoll High School". On July 8th at 7:00 pm at the Hollywood Forever cemetery at 6000 Santa Monica Blvd the film will be shown outdoors on the lawn near the Johnny Ramone memorial statue sculpted by Devils Rejects/House of 1000 Corpses makeup FX artist Wayne Toth. There will be special guests in attendance during a brief pre-show ceremony that include but not limited to: Marky Ramone, PJ Soles, Clint Howard and Lars from Rancid (there may be a couple of other surprise guests as well!) Tickets are $15, and all proceeds go to prostate cancer and Lymphoma research charities. Enjoy Rock and Roll High School under the stars with the stars and support a great cause! Wish I could go, but my son is singing at the Sondheim tribute at the Hollywood Bowl and I'm supposed to go sit thru that...
