He was interested in philosophy (see "Jumpers") and got to know fellow-Czech Stephan Körner, then head of the philosophy department at Bristol University. Apparently Stoppard was permitted to sit in on some talks and seminars. When I studied at Bristol many years later, Körner was still around as professor emeritus. So Tom and I would have had something to talk about. Had we ever met. Quote
