relbbaddoof Posted January 15 Posted January 15 "tennis players lived almost 10 years longer than their sedentary peers — and longer than soccer players, swimmers and the other recreational athletes" https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/15/well/move/sports-exercise-longevity.html Now we know why Steve keeps going and going. Steve R. Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Thank you, but I attribute my longevity to my healthy diet. Unfortunately, most of it doesn't seem to appear anywhere in anyone's food pyramid. The research seems to show that racquet sports in general contribute to the longevity, so I credit years of squash for a good bit of it. I think that some of that is due to the combination of fitness with the non-contact aspect of these sports (although swimmers?). Of course longevity is the main goal but this year's new hip, dislocated/relocated shoulder, knee gel shots and assorted other medical interventions put a dent in the happiness part of lasting. But I'll take it. And, by the way, since when is 73 proof of longevity? Talk to me in another 15-20 years (or talk to my urn?). Does anyone else here have a thread with their name on it? Thank you. You not only need to get to the ball and hit it, you have to be plotting all the time (and swiftly, at that) how to hit it so as to flummox (or better, humiliate) your opponent. Like chess, only a bit more physical. Quote
Wilfrid Posted January 18 Posted January 18 I get all that from walking down the street somewhere like around Times Square. Obvious physical effort plus figuring out very fast what other people are planning to do (stop, swerve, stop again, jaywalk badly). Quote
relbbaddoof Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 (edited) You'll have to prove the advantages of this form of exercise by living 10 years longer than @Steve R. Edited January 19 by relbbaddoof Quote
hollywood Posted January 19 Posted January 19 But Wilf goes to Hinds concerts. That should count for something. Quote
