mongo Posted January 18 Posted January 18 i'm being shown a lot of ads for mail order maine uni. very tempted to get some. should i resist? Quote
small h Posted January 18 Posted January 18 No. I've had it at 15 East and from Aquabest and loved it. It's brinier than Santa Barbara uni, less powerful than Hokkaido uni. Quote
mongo Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 (edited) it's not maine uni per se i have questions about--i've had it before as well. i'm just not sure about the likely quality at places showing me ads on facebook. for example. Edited January 19 by mongo Quote
Evelyn Posted January 19 Posted January 19 I'd suggest https://brownetrading.com/products/maine-uni Expensive, but always pristine. Quote
mongo Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 intriguing. the price is not that much higher. but evelyn, in your experience has it always arrived looking like it does in the product pic? because in the reviews there are descriptions and pictures of very mushy uni. Quote
Evelyn Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Yes, I have ordered it 4x, and it has been excellent. Their weekly offers usually show up on the site on Tuesday at 1 pm PST, I usually order on Wednesday midday/or Thursday morning. My other source is also very good- https://www.regalisfoods.com/products/maine-bafun-uni?variant=38130516754629 But they seem to run out quickly. And their shipping can be pricey. Fair warning-it is a dangerous site to end up going down the rabbit hole and ordering more items than you originally plan on 😮😅 Hope that helps. 1 Quote
Simon Posted January 20 Posted January 20 This was excellent when ordered last year: https://www.e-fish.com/products/maine-bafun-uni-ensui Quote

Since all the trays and brine packed uni you get from Maine are likely from the same processor, it all depends on how long it's been with the distributor and more importantly - on how much your local UPS/FedEx driver likes to kick things around just for fun... 2 Quote

It's how I got those nice truffles last month, along with a tin of caviar and free shipping. Quote

FWIW, we ate at SoPo's fish market and it was quite good. 1 Quote
