Thought we needed a thread on places we walk by, places we hear about, places we want feedback on without starting a thread about it (yet)...   So last night we walked by Lure Fishbar. I love the l

Walked by that newish place Turquoise on E. 81. Nice fish menu - lots of whole fish, and meditarannean stuff. Not wacky expensive, believe it or not. If they do all the fish well, might be nice. N

I went a few months ago. I liked the wings; the potato mochi are good if you don't mind the typical mochi texture. They're served with a sweetish sauce and lots of butter. The place really is small

The former RUB on West 23rd has been replaced by a Sushi Seki, which I am assuming is an offshoot of the UES one. Does anyone know anything about this place?

Damn, RUB closed? I must have missed that.

A previous office in NYC found us picking up burnt ends and ribs and heading to the high line more than a few times.

They got hit by two disasters in a row: a week without power after Hurricane Sandy and a runaway car going right through their front window.

Curious is right.

Last night, a dozen 20- and 30-somethings sat around a reclaimed-wood table for “The Buddha Walks Into a Bar,” a wine and cocktail tasting accompanied by mindfulness teachings from the young Buddhist author and advice columnist Lodro Rinzler. After glasses of Gambellara were served, he led the group through 10 minutes of silent meditation, then encouraged attendees to “be present as we sip the wine.” Later, over gin with cardamom and toasted sage, he suggested guests gaze upward, breathe deeply and “acknowledge how having two drinks has affected the mind and the body so far. A platter of cured meats sat mostly untouched.”

You should go and report back. Look on the bright side. While everyone else is meditating you can devour that plate of untouched cured meats.

Other events are more hands-on. A get-together next Wednesday promises a wine-fueled lesson in tabletop weaving (participants receive a loom to take home). This Sunday, in conjunction with the Super Bowl, adults and children are invited to gather upstairs to hand-stitch windsocks.

Somebody ought to send this in to the Onion.

I just want to quote the first line, in case Oakapple didn't click the link:

It’s been almost a decade since Taavo Somer co-opened Freemans, the seminal Lower East Side gastropub that ushered in a new epoch of American comfort food and rustic, taxidermy-heavy restaurant design.

I'm sure they're on it.

Those things are probably what a large portion of their clientele majored in at Hampshire.
