maison rustique
I did not take photo, but this is what I had last night, only instead of English muffin, it was on whole grain bread. I can't recall the last time I had a tuna melt and I really liked it with the horseradish. It was very satisfying. small h
Leftover ricotta dumplings with tomato sauce, broiled asparagus. Maybe don't cook the tomato sauce so long, but other than that, no notes.
Wilfrid
A long time since I cooked oxtail, here it’s bombarded with ramps and shredded ramp leaves.
MitchW
Quickly cooked dinner in between periods 1 and 2 of the Rangers' game last night: Thankfully, I already had the rice going. Shrimp and scallops sautéed in butter and olive oil, pan sauce. Stir fried bok choy with lots of garlic and ginger. Rice was the latest crop from The Rice Factory, Minamiuonuma Koshihikari.
Wilfrid
Nice the aroma in the apartment after frying ramps. This was a quick late supper. A supermarket ham steak, shame on me, but topped with green asparagus, itself topped with an egg over easy, then fine sliced ramp bulbs tossed in the pan. Everything drenched with the melted Beurre de Barrate that has the salt crystals.
Wilfrid
After an event in Chelsea at which, among other things, I was introduced to smart vibrators for men and women (they connect to the internet and you can imagine…maybe) I threw together a fast supper. One last portion of braised tripe I had remembered to thaw. I fried ramps in olive oil, added the tripe, then fiercely reduced the tripe broth. It was really good. Very rampy, the creamy mouthfeel of the broth.
Wilfrid
My apartment really smells of ramps.

StephanieL
N has been thrilled that our local butcher/fishmonger has been getting a regular supply of sole, so yesterday she bought some filets and sauteed them with butter, wine, and capers. Braised scallions, roasted broccoli, and a sourdough baguette on the side; egg tarts (regular and white) from Yummy Bakery that I got at Friday's Grant Avenue street fest for dessert. small h
Ramp and asparagus soup with yogurt. It has some nice garnishes, too, but they sank. So much for presentation! I guess I either have to make the soup really thick or make sure it's really shallow. I do not feel like doing either of these things. 1

Wilfrid
I have been eating low carb tortilla chips for many months, I dimly realized recently that I could make nachos. These are threaded with perniz from Dominican restaurant up the street and my fingers now smell of pork fat. Could be worse.
small h
My somewhat disastrous last attempt at pasta, with some red pepper sauce I made and froze a while back, and ricotta from our road trip to Valley Shepherd. I’ll just pretend it looks like this on purpose. FIrst balcony salad of the season! Little gem, and a dressing made with the tarragon, mint and dill.

Since my meals are often a handful of tortilla chips tossed on a plate with some shredded cheese and nuked, I should make that switch. Only I have not seen them anywhere.

Admittedly, we know that nachos, they are not.

Wilfrid
Working through the leftover perniz, put it in a pan with red wine and sour cream and served with some asparagus. Nothing pretty to photograph but very good. I still have some left which went in the freezer.
MitchW
A bit of schlepping around yesterday led me near Raffetto's. Where I bought two types of ravioli; a box of classic cheese and a box of "wild" mushroom. Each box of 48 pieces is under $10. So I made a nice marinara sauce (and have a good quart or more left over) using a couple of big cans of Bianco DiNapoli tomatoes, butter, olive oil, onion, carrot, celery and garlic. Endive alla Romana accompanied. Edited May 15 by MitchW

StephanieL
Kinda-sorta chicken fajitas, with RG Midnight Blacks, roasted peppers, scallions, and sweet potatoes, and lots of cilantro. Tortillas (corn-wheat mix) on the side; fresh mango with vanilla ice cream and rum for dessert.
MitchW
Some nights just call for a pre-dinner Martini, and while the vermouth made it into the drink, it did not make it into the picture. Nor did the orange bitters or lemon twists. Reverse seared strip steak topped with mushroom and pan sauce. Chive mashed Yukon golds. Roasted broccolini. And a dab of Pickle Guys' horseradish. To drink. Pre sell-off by Merry. Edited May 16 by MitchW

small h
i'm trying to get my pasta groove back after a couple of years pretending to be low carb. It's gonna take a few more tries. I'm not suffering, or anything. The balcony is doing well so far. Sorrel and Little Gem.
