I don't think my little pickling project is going to move the needle, but there are some experimental treatments that might be successful in the future. Edited May 24 by small h Quote
small h Posted May 25 Author Posted May 25 Now that Colbert has ended, I can stop yelling at the screen every time he conducts the Colbert Questionnaire and asks people what the best sandwich is. The best sandwich is a tuna melt. 1 Quote
MitchW Posted May 25 Posted May 25 Two recent dinners: Bone-in chicken thigh, sautéed with onions, garlic, white wine. Finished with lemon juice, lemon zest and parsley. Served with sautéed fresh corn, zucchini, and scallions. Penne col Sugo di Funghi Coltivati. One of the first pastas I cooked out of an early Marcella book, Marcella's Italian Kitchen. This involves sautéing onions, garlic, and mushrooms in butter and olive oil, then adding white wine, anchovies and some diced tomatoes. It won't be saucy and then uses a fair amount of the pasta water to make a "sugo" before drizzling with a little more olive oil. A lovely mixed salad on the side. Wanted to drink a pinot noir with ths, but then realized I didn't have one at the right serving temp, so I opened a Grüner instead. 2 Quote

My ex reports that she knew what it was called, but had no idea you could eat it. I remember it was a real menace, growing fast everywhere. Quote

StephanieL Posted June 10 Posted June 10 RG Black Calypsos cooked with herbs and good olive oil, sauteed greens from our garden plus scallions, pre-sliced speck, and a baguette to make open-faced sandwiches/smorrebrod. 1 Quote
StephanieL Posted June 13 Posted June 13 The weather has been warm the last couple of days, so I asked N if we could have a grain salad for summer. She mixed together barley, pickled onions, cherry tomatoes, red pepper, cucumber, tinned smoked herring, jammy hard-boiled eggs, and a dressing that I don't know the ingredients of. Served over a combination of arugula and butter lettuce. Ice cream for dessert. 1 Quote
small h Posted July 4 Author Posted July 4 Squid ink risotto with tomato, saffron and ramp butter. Despite having a difficult time extracting the squid ink, and the dish’s weird color, I am happy. Scallop aguachile on (most of, it had issues) an avocado wedge. Quote
StephanieL Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Braised chicken Basque-style--lots of pepper and onion and a hit of Pimente d'Espelette powder. Couscous on the side to soak up the sauce. 1 Quote
maison rustique Posted July 6 Posted July 6 Cold plate last night. My sister's pea salad and Italian Macaroni Salad, one of their home-grown tomatoes with a few drops of evoo and fresh oregano grown by a friend. And a very generous portion of Olive My Pickle Horseradish Dill pickle. And finishing the bottle of wine from Friday night. Quote
