It's been a rough couple of years with no EMS, but otherwise it's easy to do just that. A more reasonable side by side would be the trf product vs an available Japanese or California rice of the same variety.
taion
That cannot actually be easier than just buying rice from TRF, though.
taion
Do any of the Cali koshihikari producers vacuum-pack their rice?

Sneakeater
Even those.

Yes, vacuum or nitrogen in the bag. 1 hour ago, taion said: That cannot actually be easier than just buying rice from TRF, though. No, but you can get freshly harvested and milled rice for about the same price and it's not harder. Anyway, I think TRF is a good product that's worth supporting. Before I discovered TRF, I had bought some nice Japanese koshihikari at Mitsuwa; it was also very good, but I don’t remember if it was that much cheaper.
joethefoodie
I’m also pretty certain that Cali growers are having some issues (well, water issues) and I think we’ll be seeing those prices go up and supply go down.
joethefoodie
Checking, I see that Mitsuwa has a couple of rices at better prices, albeit much larger bags. I love that store.
AaronS
I bought some TRF rice from the japan mart in industry city and was really happy with it.

joethefoodie
Do you mean as a food item? Or...something more nefarious? I'll bet the stem is good once it is peeled.
