Peanut butter on Irish soda bread (with raisins). The bread from our local baker isn't too sweet, so it works. The peanut butter I have currently is just peanuts--no sugar, oils, or salt.

braised chicken, roast pork, and roast duck over rice, with steamed cabbage and ginger-scallion paste, from win’s restaurant (3040 taraval (41st avenue))

it reminds me of a hole-in-the-wall near the roosevelt avenue subway station in queens when i lived in jackson heights in the late 1990s.

Pulled out the old plancha/mini baking steel, which is awesome since it only weighs 15 lbs. as opposed to the larger one at 25 lbs.

BLT, on Balthazar whole grain bread (lightly toasted).  Assorted tomatoes (Beefsteak on the sandwich) and corn from Jersey.  Duke's mayo.

Semi-classic tuna nicoise salad. Tuna, anchovies, potatoes, tomatoes, olives, lettuce, avocado (the no-no), green beans. There was a hard-boiled egg as well, just failed to plate it for the pic.  Classic vinaigrette.

Small pleasures. Drifting through Chinatown hungry, I was at that little triangle between Walker and Canal. There's an open window selling every bun you can imagine. But they also sell quite large Taiwanese sausages on a stick for $4.

It was delicious. It reminded me I haven't bought Chinese sausage in a while. Beyond that I am now craving a breakfast sandwich with Chinese sausage as the meat component. Tell me that's a bad idea.

Excellent prosciutto and provolone sandwich, on whatever the Italian equivalent of a baguette is (sourdough division).  From Toscano Brothers in North Beach, a bakery run by the pizzaiolo Tony Gemignani.

When  I walk by Russ & Daughters, and it's not slammed (like at 9:30 this morning), I must stop in.

And then I made each of us a sampler plate for lunch.

My beloved pumpernickle bagel, smoked sable, Scottish smoked salmon, whitefish salad, pickled herring.

Leftover eggplant & olive caponata I made for a potluck, with feta cheese sprinkled on top. Eaten on toast; anything left after tomorrow will get the matzoh treatment.
