I realize now that it isn't dead. It's gone to the mall upstate, where it's having a good time playing with the other stores.
Sneakeater
Still alive after having eaten the mystery food. But I guess the real test is whether I wake up tomorrow.

Sneakeater
I actually think there's so much alcohol reposing in my body that it would take a very hearty bacillus to survive in there.

Evelyn
I just received an order from the East Coast of what were supposed to be frozen Jimmy's Seafood crabcakes. They were supposed to arrive yesterday. Instead, they arrived today at about 6 pm-completely ompletely thawed. My FedEx driver is notorious for calling it a day at 6 pm. So, they've been traveling around LV in his truck in 80+ weather. I tested their temps. The coldest registered 45 degrees on my Thermoworks thermometer. Most were between 48-51 degrees. I put them in the freezer and emailed the sender to ask for a replacement. If they won't replace the order, would you toss them? That's my current thought, because I am pretty sure they use mayonnaise in the recipe. hollywood
If not for the mayo, I'd bake and eat. Maybe there's a hungry cat nearby? Edited April 12 by hollywood
Evelyn
Unfortunately there are 12- 8 oz crabcakes. And I am sure while my 2 heathens might want them, I don't see myself dealing with the possible aftermath 😱
MitchW
Toss.

This is right in his sweet spot for aged food. 😄 1

backyardchef
I would toss-- particularly after re-freezing.
voyager
Absolutely toss. On account of the crab, not the mayo. Today's commercial mayo has so much acid in it, as well as sterilized eggs, that it is no longer considered a cause of spoilage. It's the other ingredients that become toxic.

At the memory care where my husband is, they leave the mayo on the tables in the dining room all the time. I was horrified at first, but they have regular inspections, so am sure it is acceptable or it wouldn't be happening.

That is true of mayo on its own (and yes nothing is going to happen if you leave it out, as evidenced by all of Mexico) but once you mix mayo with high moisture items (even just water) it's going to be a real microbial party. 1

Wilfrid
I chiseled a bit of white mould off the side of the salami before making the sandwich and I’m still here.
Sneakeater
No one will believe me about this, but I think it’s pretty well established that white mold on dry sausage is only to be expected, even part of the process.
