I really can’t remember why, but I went down the rabbit hole of old Peter Paul & Mary live performances on YouTube last night. (I think I was half-remembering one of their songs…)

After a while I started imaging the young Joan Jett watching and wondering (1) Why doesn’t she have a guitar? and (2)…Why the fuck doesn’t she have her own microphone?

Today is the eighth anniversary of the release of Hinds’ first album, Leave Me Alone. I actually was not aware of that, but they kind of mentioned it a bit on social media. So obviously that’s what to listen to today.

And with the totality of the original group.

It is SO bizarre that Andy Williams of all people came out with one of the best pop singles of the 1960s (written by Pomus-Schuman, to give this some street cred).

There really is NEVER a time when I don't listen to this song obsessively.

Bacall sounded better.

So having read this piece about Jim Gordon in today's Guardian, I decided to burn one and listen to Let it Rain (collaboration not even mentioned in the Guardian!). IMO this is among Clapton's best work, but the drum solo is right up there with Baker and Bonham. Curious: were any old MFFers going to shows at the Garden back then? I am an old yet now must realize the I was just 13 at the time. Do share.

https://www.brooklynvegan.com/new-lou-reed-tribute-lp-features-afghan-whigs-angel-olsen-keith-richards-more/

Lou Reed‘s birthday is Saturday (March 2); he would’ve been 82, and to celebrate a new tribute album has been announced. It’s titled The Power Of The Heart and is out April 20 via Light in the Attic. It features covers of Lou Reed classics by Keith Richards, Rosanne Cash, Lucinda Williams, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, The Afghan Whigs, Bobby Rush, Maxim Ludwig & Angel Olsen, Mary Gauthier, Rufus Wainwright,, and Automatic. Vinyl and CD copies include photos of Reed by Mick Rock and Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, as well as extensive liner notes by the album’s producer, Bill Bentley, who worked closely with Reed for over two decades.

You can listen to Keith Richards’ version of the Velvet Underground’s “I’m Waiting for the Man,” which opens the album, now. “To me, Lou stood out,” Keith says. “The real deal! Something important to American music and to ALL MUSIC! I miss him and his dog.” Check out his cover, along with the cover art and tracklist to the tribute, below.
