maison rustique Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 My dear old friend Toni Zeto wrote and performed this with her band Second Language. Sky Will Open Quote
Mitchell101 Posted April 2, 2024 Author Posted April 2, 2024 Damn this song breaks my heart….. 1 Quote
Sneakeater Posted April 15, 2024 Posted April 15, 2024 You know how good Cowboy Carter is? Beggar's Banquet good. 1 Quote
Mitchell101 Posted April 15, 2024 Author Posted April 15, 2024 I’m enjoying about 1/2 of it. Which isn’t a bad thing. Quote
Mitchell101 Posted April 15, 2024 Author Posted April 15, 2024 Meanwhile, some of the criticism (especially from you Megyn Kelly!) is so ridiculous. They have no idea what a song like Jolene is even about. Completely backwards. Quote
Sneakeater Posted April 15, 2024 Posted April 15, 2024 I mean I'm not happy she messed with the lyric thrust of "Jolene". Although the insertion of a bridge certainly didn't hurt. Quote
Sneakeater Posted April 15, 2024 Posted April 15, 2024 Of course the key point is that it's NOT REMOTELY A COUNTRY ALBUM so just shut up about that. 1 Quote

Wilfrid Posted April 16, 2024 Posted April 16, 2024 Nothing against Beyoncé at all, but I wince at all these stories about the first Black woman to top the country charts. Duh, she’s Beyoncé. Taylor Swift would top the R&B charts if she wanted to (maybe she did already, I don’t know). There are terrific Black women working in country/Americana. Hopefully Beyoncé will lift them up. Quote
Sneakeater Posted April 16, 2024 Posted April 16, 2024 (edited) Even worse, that stuff just misses the point. That’s not what this album’s about Also, the contemporary fixation on chart performance makes me want to puke. Edited April 16, 2024 by Sneakeater Quote
Wilfrid Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 “You’re no Dylan Thomas/I’m no Patti Smith..” True. Now listening to “Horses.” Quote

MitchW Posted May 7, 2024 Posted May 7, 2024 (edited) I saw T-Bone Burnett do an interview, and then sing about 6 songs (5 songs from his new record, The Other Side), at National Sawdust a couple of weeks ago. It was a great evening, and a rare performance in front of an audience...https://www.nationalsawdust.org/event/the-grammy-museum-presents-a-new-york-evening-with-t-bone-burnett This interview in Variety is very similar to what the interview at National Sawdust was all about. Also, the new record is wonderful. Edited May 7, 2024 by MitchW 2 Quote
Wilfrid Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 I wasn’t paying attention to this today but a friend posted a clip of Dion singing Piaf across the Seine and just wow. Okay, a friend posted a link to this, I am not following the Wu Tang account although it is probably great. 1 Quote
maison rustique Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 Yes and a wonderful song she sang, too. 1 Quote
Sneakeater Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 As far as I’m concerned, he can sing anything. Quote
Sneakeater Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 I'm at a loss to understand why Ingrid Haebler's pianoplaying isn't held in higher general regard. There's a difference between limp and limpid, you know. Quote
