Sneakeater
Speaking of, I've got to say that Merle Haggard is so awesomely great it's hard to fathom how great he is. If only he'd gotten past his false consciousness and turned Marxist.
backyardchef
Arthur Doyle, "Alabama Feeling" "The way Doyle and Stephens move from splayed torrents of rapid-fire notes to long, drawn-out, revenant moans, gasping for air while tones intermingle and cross-cut in the air, makes for some of the most thrilling free playing of its time." - John Dale

Wilfrid
Yes I saw that. But I have to be honest. Oasis, when they were much younger, were a boring live act. Good songs, but absolutely static and charisma-free on stage. Only excitement is going to come from an audience going crazy. Same reaction I remember having to Wilco. I could listen to the songs at home and find a plastic cup of warm beer too. There are other bands I wouldn’t say this about.
Mitchell101
Interesting as I feel Wilco live is a whole different experience. Except when I saw them play one of their albums in its entirety note for note. Tweedy has become quite engaging with the audience. And I have a soft spot for them due to what they did at Jazzfest years ago. They were headlining one of the main stages and a thunderstorm came thru when they started. Fest was shut down after one song. The storm cleared and later that night they got hold of a generator and played 90 minutes in a park for free. Having seen them at Sessions on West 54th and at Solid Sound, I would beg to differ.
Wilfrid
Maybe I saw the same show Mitch did, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot note for note and they didn’t move. Yawn.
mongo
one of the best shows i've ever seen was wilco in los angeles (at the el rey maybe?) right after being there came out. they pretty much tore it down and rebuilt it live as a loud, almost punk rock album. the whole show was an extended out of body experience. MitchW
Saw Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, with their band The Guilty Ones, last night at City Winery. No warm beer last night. Dave Alvin can play some great guitar…
