rlm
I like Vesta and 240 Union, but how can they honestly be out-ranking Frasca and Rioja to such a large degree? And the Flagstaff House has a big ol' wine list, yes indeed, but they're coasting on their reputation. I guess the people that bow to P.F. Changs have sadly never even been to many of the other excellent places nominated in these categories. Then again, why should I be surprised, as I was discussing birthday dinners with a co-worker born the day before me and she was all excited to tell me about her fabulous birthday meal...at the Macaroni Grill (where they sent her over the moon with a rendition of "Happy Birthday" in Italian). Guest biedermancooks
its a little wierd that you put Vesta and 240 Union in the same catagory as Macaroni Grill.
rlm
its a little wierd that you put Vesta and 240 Union in the same catagory as Macaroni Grill. I didn't. I put Macaroni Grill in the same category as PF Changs. Perhaps a paragraph break was in order. Vesta and 240 Union are cool (though not on the same level as Frasca). I am not enamored with chains and I was attempting to comment on the fact that Changs is running away with the Chinese category and why should we be surprised when so many people are plenty satisfied with...oh, hell, never mind. Guest biedermancooks
sorry for the misunderstanding. I couldn't agree with you more. One thing that I try to keep in mind is the fact that allot of the voting public is in the outlying suburban areas and are not used to or do you like to come into Denver or go to Boulder and drop some coin on a good meal. They would rather go to a chain in a mall or what not.
pepperedpalate
Hello all-- The 2007 restaurant/bar nominees are live on the AOL CityGuide Denver page. Vote often for your favorites! The "restaurant" category is for best overall restaurants. Yes -- I picked the nominees, but because AOL has all but elimated restaurant coverage for the Denver/Boulder area (don't ask), the lists this year are fewer and less diverse. And there is no Chinese category, which means that Mongo will need to find something else to annoy him. Lori www.gastronaughty.typepad.com
rlm
Vote often? So they don't even check IP addresses to keep you from stuffing the virtual ballot box? Seems you have to close the browser to vote again, as clearing out the "cookies" didn't work. Someone should execute a simple WinRunner script to launch the browser & navigate to this URL; vote for THE KITCHEN for breakfast ("Your pick is currently seventh"-WTF?!), STEUBEN'S for burgers (no, I've never had a burger there, but you have to vote for them for something and that's the only category they're nominated in), FRASCA for best restaurants (I mean, come on--who has done more to attract national attention here and light a fire under every other local restauranteurs' butt?), and Z CUISINE for romantic restaurants; then shut down the browser and loop it all like crazy. The Pizza choices are the most difficult. Virgilio's or The Oven or Proto's or what? All good. Is Somethin' Else nominated as a memorial choice since it no longer exists? Where's Big Papa's on the BBQ list?

Where's Big Papa's on the BBQ list? No shit, I know it's a huge pain the in ass in terms of having to close your browser. I voted today and it took me forever -- almost as long as it took me to vote in the midterm elections a couple of weeks ago. I agree about the difficulty of the pizza choices. I crafted the lists well over a month ago, when Somethin' Else was still Somethin' Else, and while I've emailed my editor twice to ask him to omit it from the list, it's inexplicably still on there. You like Big Papa's more than I. When you have a chance, get up to Cabin Creek Smokehouse. -Lori www.gastronaughty.typepad.com
rlm
Hmmm...Shutting down my browser isn't working now. You think they're on to me?
