Needs more hockey, tbh, and I say this as someone who doesn't mind watching two pretty boys smash. But are you coming to the cottage? Quote

Wilfrid Posted February 17 Posted February 17 About to watch Burbs episode 2. I know they dumped the whole series, but why would I binge-watch it? And if I see spoilers, oh no. Who cares? Quote
small h Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Weapons. Like many horror movies, this sets up a pretty interesting premise and then completely squanders it by devolving into gore and nonsense. I was scared exactly once. H convinced me to watch it by saying it was Oscar nominated. It will not win. Quote
bloviatrix Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I binged the first 5 episodes of Drops of God, season 2 yesterday. Now I'm eagerly waiting the final episode. Quote
Wilfrid Posted March 19 Posted March 19 I try to spare you all my obsessions with Japanese and Chinese cinema, but I will make an exception for This is Not What I Expected for food-related reasons. It's a romantic comedy about a very junior chef -- who turns out to be highly talented -- and the CEO of a hotel chain. The first 20 minutes had me falling out of my chair; I will never believe it wasn't directly based on Ratatouille. That's qualification enough for any movie, but the rest continues to be very funny indeed and the food, throughout, looks great. The link above is to YouTube, which has the original soundtrack and subtitles. If you have Prime, you can get it there, but when I tried I could only find it dubbed into English, which is just not as good. Unless you can't do subtitles. Quote

If this was horror, Hitchcock is trying to roll over in his grave. However, last night we watched One Battle After Another - and both of us were quite entertained. Quote

MitchW Posted March 20 Posted March 20 I think Paul Thomas Anderson wants you to get nervous. As opposed to whoever directed Weapons. Quote

He does, and I generally like what I've seen of his stuff a lot, but, like Boogie Nights more than Magnolia. 20 minutes ago, MitchW said: As opposed to whoever directed Weapons. Some guy named Zach Cregger. His next project is Resident Evil, which I will just...let H watch by himself. Quote
Wilfrid Posted April 28 Posted April 28 I keep meaning to recommend Saturday Night Live UK. I was skeptical initially (and I haven't seen every episode) but it is very funny. The format is identical to the original SNL. The cast is great -- they have someone doing a truly uncanny vocal imitation of Keir Starmer. Two interesting differences from the NY version: Weekend Update is aggressive and pointed to a degree Che and Jost could never consider. And cast members can swear without getting fined (Miss Eggy say wha...?) I stream it on Peacock but there are probably plenty of clips on YouTube for anyone curious. Quote
small h Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Tried Margo's Got Money Troubles. First episode, meh. I might watch a second since some of my friends really like it. But this is how I got roped into Heated Rivalry. Quote
bloviatrix Posted April 29 Posted April 29 I've been watching Rooster on HBO. I'm a sucker for any comic that happens in a university setting. Danielle Deadwyler is great. Quote

It’s diverting, but my tolerance has plummeted for shows in which a hot young female character pursues a less desirable older male character who just happens to be played by one of the show’s producers. OMG.... we saw the movie "Over Your Dead Body" this weekend and what jumped out immediately was the age difference between Jason Segal and his female co star. Another old white man that is irresistible to a beautiful, young woman even though he has virtually no redeeming qualities. Barf. Quote
