Lex
I withdraw my comment about the square pie being oily. Anyone reading along who hasn't been to DiFara's really ought to go and make up their own mind. There are crowds so obviously lots of people love it. My only real point (aside from the fun of poking at Steve) is that the pizza can be inconsistent. Some people don't mind that, others do.
Stone
That looks simultaneously delicious and disgusting. I can imagine loving the first two bites and thereafter feeling ill. Doesn't have any more oil dripping off it than a good slice of peperoni. And many good slices requiring a minutes of waiting for it to firm up before it can be easily lifted and eaten. g.johnson
Not just the oil, the mass of melted cheese and dripping tomato sauce are also intimidating.

How dare you stop poking me so early?? And now Stone gets to post something logical (and based on pizza knowledge)? My day is shot.

Lex
Oh OK, let me go after the Cultists. Here's a well written blog entry describing how the author became converted. The Comments section provides the real comedy gold. Here's the picture in the blog: Oh, cmon. I love a tasty ny pizza as much as the next guy, but you didn't even mention that half of the crust on that pie was burned to cinders? And the thoughtful reply - To the person talking about the pizza being half burnt, you just dont understand the magic of Di fara's. I once had to pick sausage off the entire pizza because it was completely burnt, but thats just the price you pay for having amazing pizza, especially when Dominic is so swamped. You just don't get it. : ( Cultists.
Stone
Sometimes you have to destroy the pizza to save it.

fentona
Can you recommend a place to get good orphans in Brooklyn? All the ones I've had are burnt, and oily too.

galleygirl
I was at DiFra's the first (and I assume only) time a former poster whose nom de Mouthfuls paid homage to a Spanish Blue cheese. Said poster repeatedly asked me, sotto voce, "Is this how the dish is generally eaten? Are these dark areas on the crust what is appropriate for the cuisine?" It was also about 90 degrees outside... Hee hee.....

No, but splinky has some kittens in need of a home. I don't think they're burnt or oily, so they may be a good match for you.
