I withdraw my comment about the square pie being oily.

Anyone reading along who hasn't been to DiFara's really ought to go and make up their own mind. There are crowds so obviously lots of people love it. My only real point (aside from the fun of poking at Steve) is that the pizza can be inconsistent. Some people don't mind that, others do.

For years, Dom has quietly tried to discourage slice orders. He's a good businessman so he, at first, kept the pie price at $24 or so but raised the slice price to $5 (yes, there are 8 slices/pie).

new park in howard beach, but i've only had it as take out. i don't wander around howard beach without an armed detail. i also like la rondine and dani's in kew gardens. 3 very different slices.

I was just about to say that same thing. Time flies, indeed.

That looks simultaneously delicious and disgusting. I can imagine loving the first two bites and thereafter feeling ill.

Doesn't have any more oil dripping off it than a good slice of peperoni.

And many good slices requiring a minutes of waiting for it to firm up before it can be easily lifted and eaten.

Excuse me but its only 3pm and I have 2 more hours here. How dare you stop poking me so early?? And now Stone gets to post something logical (and based on pizza knowledge)? My day is shot.

Oh OK, let me go after the Cultists. Here's a well written blog entry describing how the author became converted. The Comments section provides the real comedy gold.

Here's the picture in the blog:

Oh, cmon. I love a tasty ny pizza as much as the next guy, but you didn't even mention that half of the crust on that pie was burned to cinders?

And the thoughtful reply -

To the person talking about the pizza being half burnt, you just dont understand the magic of Di fara's. I once had to pick sausage off the entire pizza because it was completely burnt, but thats just the price you pay for having amazing pizza, especially when Dominic is so swamped. You just don't get it. : (

I was at DiFra's the first (and I assume only) time a former poster whose nom de Mouthfuls paid homage to a Spanish Blue cheese. Said poster repeatedly asked me, sotto voce, "Is this how the dish is generally eaten? Are these dark areas on the crust what is appropriate for the cuisine?"

It was also about 90 degrees outside... Hee hee.....

the best ones are only available in manhattan, sorry.

can i get them by the slice, or in a cone?
