  1. Ummmm... time to move? where i live is fine. this block where my kids get the bus happens to be a bad one. i don't think it's funny. do you? do you think people getting shot is funny? what about the the people who live on that block who can't afford to move? should we make jokes about them?
  2. Still, five shots in the same leg? That's pretty good shootin'. chuck heston would be proud Five shots with no center body mass hits? That's totally lame, no pun intended. my kid's bus drops them off at this school. i am scared to death to show up late. what if i am not on time? will they be the ones who get shot? and you fuckers think it's a joke? kids getting shot is not a joke. i call 911 every two weeks because crime is rampant on this block. of course the police are never there. 3. It's hot in Chicago too. My friend (? ) played these songs today:
  4. had a really good torta last week from cemitas puebla (3619 W. North Ave., Chicago, IL 60647, 773-772-8435) pork chop milanesa (right), al pastor (left) the main difference between a torta and a cemita is the dense sesame seed bread. the owner/chef told me that he has a local bakery bake the bread using a recipe from his father. cemitas puebla also makes their own chiptoles en adobo and uses imported queso oaxaca. the herb on the sandwich is papalo. there are better photos here.
  5. do mexicans in mexico drive around in their cars waving their banderas and honking their horns? that's what they do here in chicago. i love it.
  6. someone made this awesome video about one of my favorite places. i wish i had made this video. if you're easily offended, hate 2 live crew, or are anti-jiggly-butts don't watch it. ukzZ8jqBXEQ

he started 5 black players in the '66 ncaa tournament and beat evil adolph rupp and kentucky (pat riley was on that team.) here's an especially good obit by dan wetzel, who wrote a book about haskins (which i think was made into a movie?): http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/ne...o&type=lgns

  9. damn, i will move the pics. i hope they work now.
  10. a couple weeks ago i went to mies van der rohe's farnsworth house in plano il. it's about 65 miles southwest of chicago on the the fox river. if you go give yourself 2 hours because you will get lost, like i did. it's a ten minute walk from the welcome center to the house, we saw a doe and 2 fawns along the way. the front of the house. most pictures of the house show the back, probably because of the old sugar maple (it's hurtin') in front of the house. i really really really want to have a party on this porch (it's travertine.) how did i get a hot date like this? no pictures allowed on the inside, this is the best i have. a picture of the bedroom from the east. the docent was very knowledgeable. the furniture inside is mostly mies reproductions and some original works by one of his students. i believe most of it was purchased by lord palumbo, who owned the house for 20 some years after dr. farnsworth sold it. i'm glad this house remained where it is, it was going to be moved to the (l)east coast before landmarks illinois purchased it a few years ago. the tour is $20. there was a grey line tour which came in when we were done but it was a lot of people. after the tour we had a picnic at silver springs state park (right across for river), then went to a cool bar in yorkville (kendall inn), and ended up at the riverboat in aurora where i won $70. it was a good day.
  11. went to sun wah (1134 W. Argyle, 773-769-1254 )on labor day with my kids, nerow, and our friend ronnie_suburban (and his family.) I've been going here somewhat regularly for the last few years, this was the best meal yet. all of these pics are ronnie's, i hope he doesn't mind me sharing them here. bejing duck. they serve the duck with bao instead of pancakes. it was awesome. they made a winter melon soup with the carcass and duck fried rice with the leftover meat. garlic ribs. i have no idea how they make these. i think they are roasted and then deep fried? my son ate half the platter. citrus fried chicken. once again, no idea how they made this. i think it was marinated, steamed, and then deep-fried? beef chow fun. delicious. the noodles were nice and crispy. we also had soft-shelled crabs, wonton soup, and stir fried baby bok choy. with tip and one (wtf?) beer it was $14 per person. a lot of these dishes need to be ordered ahead, it's worth it.
