Working my way through some Indian recipes from a not very good book - an experiment in seeing what works and what doesn't. The night before last I turned my kitchen into a post-hurricane site with a

Ta. I must give this a try.

Thank you thank you. But doesn't everyone look better wearing a bath mat?

Yesterday's dinner, 'cause today's will not be very attractive. Snap peas with lemon mint vinaigrette, caprese salad, shrimp bisque. Which was carb-free, so not as bisque-y as it should have been.

Er, I can't envision a carby shrimp bisque.     My recipe, just through cream and butter at it.   No carbs need apply.

I looked at a bunch of recipes, and some involved pureed rice, and others involved a roux. I was pretty happy with mine, despite it's somewhat watery quality.

In other news, I finally prepped a mess of celtuce in such way that all of it was palatable, and now I don't need to do that ever again. It's like 18" long artichoke stems. File under: as much work as fava beans, but not nearly as good.

Roasted tomato cream soup. This is an excellent way to eat four tomatoes in a single serving, if you have too many tomatoes for whatever reason. But learn from my mistake - seed and peel them first. Or have a much more powerful blending tool.

Also raw shellfish and a celery salad with lemon and parm, but that's not new for me.

Bingo.     These blender soups can pack in an unbelievable density of vegetables, either single flavor or melange, that kids of all sizes and ages will scarf down without the slightest inkling that they're getting their daily/weekly veg.   I was startled in the country to realize that the two of us had inhaled 2/3 of a good sized cauliflower at lunch, in a single bowl.

@small h, if you want someone else to prepare your celtuce for you, there's a knockout celtuce salad on the menu at Wenwen in Greenpoint.

Thanks, I've had my eye on that place. Once I'm subway-ready I'll try to get out there.
