That martini does not taste like seawater at all, but instead like a regular martini in which they steeped a tea bag for 45 seconds. I hated it.

So the best thing on the menu is the bread and butter? lol

How bad was the line/wait by the time they opened?

I think they read your post -- the fish and chips is already up to $32 (which seems way more reasonable for that much fried fish).

This was a lovely tribute Jesikka. I learned so much from his writing on here -- I'll miss his posts.

It's actually really impressive that this entire article about the opening of a new soup shop has only one sentence about how the soup tastes (though it's not clear that it's good, it's just thick and savory!): https://ny.eater.com/2025/1/3/24335091/schnippers-quality-soups-hale-and-hearty-opening-upper-east-side

Those pictures comprising a $200 meal for one person is so crazy to me. Maybe it's time for me to move out of this city.

I wasn't aware that Tao was worth more than Exxon. https://ny.eater.com/2024/11/13/24295601/crane-club-melissa-rodriguez-jeff-katz-opening

https://ny.eater.com/2024/10/9/24266069/heroes-pearl-box-restaurant-opening-soho Ariel Arce has to have blackmail on whoever is currently running Eater, right? This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

I initially thought that something terrible happened to her and immediately googled. Took me a second after I didn't find any news.

Kinda silly. Mostly no justification for why places dropped/shot up. Why is ABCv 35 spots better than last year? Doesn't say. Same with Le Coucou going up 30 spots. Apparently his last meal at The Grill sucked, but it's still #55. Why is Le Rock 27 spots worse than last year? Because readers have emailed him and told him the service was bad, I guess? Doesn't seem like a super useful metric.

https://ny.eater.com/2024/3/28/24114523/penny-wine-bar-claud-union-square-review I guess it can be "part of" a movement that start a long time ago, but Claud is definitely not a "new framework."

Looks like the Clinton Hill location of Mekelburg's is closing on March 31. Tough news for the neighborhood.

The food tastes very good, but the prices are absolutely nuts nowadays. They charge $15+ for a single serving of blanched/steamed vegetables, and brag about it: https://www.instagram.com/p/CtkJCIsRmu2/?hl=en https://www.instagram.com/p/CrnI8l7OPqi/?hl=en Reddit feels the same way:
