small h
Dinner for six last night, with beaucoup Scandinavian goodness. But the dishes started to feel redundant (shrimp, egg, herring, beet, potato, repeat as needed) and seemed more suited to lunch than dinner (salad, sandwich, appetizer plate). Still, I like all these ingredients (except the brisket, which I did not try). And the dill/caraway/fennel-infused aquavit was awesome. The aquavit, like most of the drinks menu, is low ABV, but that meant 25%, instead of, I dunno, 96%? Edited March 16 by small h
Wilfrid
I've looked at this place on my way to the gallery upstairs but never eaten here. I had thought of it as a breakfast/lunch spot.
small h
We ate at 7pm, and they were pretty serious about kicking us out at 9pm when the kitchen closed. So it's not a good place for a late dinner, but there's a fair amount of hot food on the menu. We just didn't order it.
MitchW
Ulrika is a great chef and a really nice person. I was lucky enough to work with her quite a number of years ago, at a Nordic food festival that took place here in NYC. The other chefs working that festival were no slouches either - it took place during the white hot Nordic craze. As an aside, one of my prep jobs was shucking 240 day boat scallops in the prep kitchen (i.e.: the basement) at Aquavit for one of Marcus's dishes. No, this took place mostly at the ICC, downtown somewhere. I guess I actually wrote a little bit about it as well.
