  1. I had an older friend who had trouble opening jars and would have a whole line of them on her counter, waiting for me anytime I was expecting to come over. I told her that when we went shopping, she should separate jars that she was going to be opening immediately at home and ask the checker to open them for her and then close them again so that they would not be sealed when she got home. then we go to Safeway, and she presents the checker with several jars which he good nature takes and start struggling and struggling and struggling, and cannot open one of them, which he then takes to another checker who has the same trouble. Finally the third one is able to open it and bring it back to her. They were seriously embarrassed.

Brava! 100% sorrel, not 90% spinach to create color!
  5. Don’t laugh. Son left a glue trap in his place in the country to get rid of a rat that had evaded other traps for months. He instead caught two snakes.
  6. Make sure that your house has no secret entries for them. Lizzie, whom many of you may remember from early food forums, had a family that regularly invaded her house through the doggie door. They regularly ransacked the kitchen, opened sealed packages of cookies, etc and sampled or devoured any food left out. She referred to them as the Gambini gang, and ridded them only by eliminating the door which inconvenienced their small dogs.
  7. D-I-I’s mother is in rehab facility after serious fall. And, yep, now has COVID. Walnut Creek, NorCal.
  8. Good maxim. Too many people choose multiple beans per pod because of the pod waste, and by doing so wind up with large, over the hill favas.
  9. I have no words for this kind of ignorance and selfishness. Tell N how sorry we are.

    Eater

Problem is that it isn't a sentence.
  11. And, yes, never buy fat pods.
  12. The way we serve peas at home. In a bowl on the kitchen table, with second bowl for pods. Help yourself.
  13. My italian sister-in-law once brought my mother a 50lb sack of baby artichokes for Mom to can for her, "because Mom did things so easily". Bad, bad, bad! But worse when she left not a pint when she picked up the cases of product.
  14. Favas are in that category of foods I will make for husband and me but not for "company". I don't want my guests to feel beholden. Or, actually, I would want them to!
  15. I have never understood the influence of influencers! Why on earth would you consider the recommendations of twits who know nothing about anything and are only selling themselves.

Yum! One of the best dishes of my life was by Nancy Oakes (now Boulevard) when she was churning out bar food at The Mad Hatter. Artichoke stuffed with a seafood (shrimp, scallops, mussels) stew. Messy as hell to eat but truly heavenly tasting. Would happily sub yours.
  18. i have no idea what is at play. During January visit, my ortho guy said these all were "garden variety arthritis, not rheumatoid. Tests by hand specialist agreed with this. So why this med is the first to provide any relief is quite an enigma (to me). Not arguing, however, so long as it's working.
  19. Sending one month supply via Gremlin Express. I am going to ask my rheumatologist at next appointment if these "cures"/improvements were indeed off label treatment.
