    Supper

You created an earworm that severely impacted my night with a continuous loop of Glorious, victorious. One keg of beer for the four of us. Glory be to God that there are no more of us Cause one of us could drink it all alone.

    Supper

Having no mental image but guided by @small h, @bloviatrix and @StephanieL, my take on egg noodles and cottage cheese. IMG_2651.HEIC
  3. Are you aware of covid pink eye with the more recent strain?

    Maggie Smith

I had completely forgotten this monologue which is one of my favorite pieces. Maggie Smith in Alan Bennett's "A Bed Among the Lentils". 49 brilliantly sardonic minutes.

    Maggie Smith

I can hardly believe I'm reading this from the NYT. Smith was acclaimed 50 years ago. She was knighted in 1990, for God's sake! Where were these people in the interim?
  6. I was jay-walking across insanely busy Clement Street and was vaguely aware of another person doing the same about 10 feet from me. Took a second look. Ooooops. Cop. He made eye contact, grinned broadly and told me to stay safe.

    Supper

An aside, husband is spending some quality time by himself in the country. He calls multiple times a day, most recently a few minutes ago asking about dinner ideas. “You have cottage cheese?” “Yes.” “You could sauté a bit of garlic, add some cottage cheese, black pepper, olive oil, moosh it all together and serve it over pasta.” “…..Sounds awful”. “Could work….” Unsaid, “or not”. Will advise.

    Supper

Fair enough. Rephrased, there was nothing that I particularly wanted to eat. The cheese was bought in error, as I assumed it was their "Breakfast Cheese" which is a simple brie. I dove deep in the stack to get a chilled one and didn't bother to check the label. I seldom by choice buy a truffled product since I find them disappointing and over-priced. So, wrong cheese in hand, I tried to mitigate my error and at least get a dinner out of the fiasco. It was amazingly not bad.

    Supper

What to eat when there's nothing to eat, "Marie Antoinette" version. On hand: butter, garlic, heavy cream, truffled brie, spaghetti
  10. Sauteed up the congealed remainder of last night's polenta, topped it with a brown-butter fried egg. No pic cause I ate it while it was hot! Yum.

    Supper

Buttery polenta with Bolognese. (another ladle of ragu added half way through.)
  12. Amen. Small quantities are the way to go with any seemingly complicated project. My M-I-L told me that I would never be able to make poteca since you had to put all the leaves in the dining room table, cover it with a freshly laundered and ironed sheet and work with an immense quantity of sweet dough. I used the kitchen table with a dish towel and rivaled hers and her mother's, while not turning out enough to feed a village.

What you do when you take a nap and let a beef stew overcook -> bolognese. One of my favorite plates,
  14. I can absolutely see this playing through. One thing I’ve learned in life is that my logic is not necessarily that of my fellow man,
  15. I am reminded of the rebuke from my d-i-l in Paris. Occasionally people offered me a seat on the metro or bus. I'd smile and say thank you, no. She ranted, "You have EARNED that courtesy. Take the GD seat!"

    Supper

Reminds me of a flight from Prague to Heathrow. My seat mate exuded precisely the aroma you describe. I think it was his suit as well as his pores.
  18. Our condolences. You deserve some peace, as did your husband. Roz, supranuclear palsy is indeed a horrific diagnosis. Similar symptoms as ALS, but can be long lasting. My niece suffered for over 12 years.
  19. Son and his 13 year old daughter are spending a week in Berlin, a post-social studies interest trip. No destination dining but rather extensive walk and gawk til you drop monument visits and chic boutique window shopping. At least I hope its just window shopping. I sent them the list of Berlin bib gourmandes, but so far they have crashed at a sushi bar and a grill where they found burgers and currywurst. Happy campers. We discussed that some people travel to eat and others eat to travel.
  20. Husband is home 9 days now from a month in neurological ICU and a week of rehab after a moderate stroke. This on top of chemo for metastatic cancer. His days are probably calculable, but that's a foolish alternative to trying to pluck some joy from every day we have. IMHO, we are actually living.
