  1. A friend dropped off some wonderful chili lime chicken skewers while I was visiting my husband. I popped them into the oven for a quick roast before it got too hot. Froze some for later and ate some tonight with arugula, sliced tomato, avocado lime dressing and buttered baguette. And as long as I had the oven on, put in the shriveling cherry tomatoes I had and a huge green pepper to roast for freezing to use in whatever.
  2. Thanks for the prosciutto tip!
  3. @small h Congrats!! The cake looks/sounds delicious!!
  4. Very best wishes to you! Looks lovely!!
  5. Not quite sure this fits in this category, but I'll go for it. After much whining and complaining to everyone, including the doctor, about my hip pain with him shrugging it off as merely being arthritis, I finally put my foot down with him yesterday. He did a couple of quick x-rays in the office and said, "Oh! Your hip is a mess! That's gonna have to be replaced. And your spine is not good!" Me: "Well, what did you think I kept trying to tell you!!!!! Anyway, I'm being referred to an orthopedist. Both hips are actually bad, but left is kaput. As far as I know, they have not developed spine replacements yet. And he is trying to get my colonoscopy and EGD bumped up on the calendar and a CT scan is ordered. I will be so happy to finally get something happening and get my life back!
  6. OMG! I so wish my husband was still able to understand things. He had a ginormous vinyl collection--about 7,000. Sold most of the LPs, but 45s are still here in the basement. I would have had this made into a poster to put up by the stereo.
  7. Glad I made the choice I did not to have one. I'd say one to take care of me in my old infirm age would be nice, but I don't think you can count on that, so I'll muddle through.
  8. I had half of my beautiful home grown tomato left so decided to make a BLT for supper last night. My bacon from the freezer had been in there too long--freezer burn. I went ahead and used it. Bacon was dreadful, bread was stale and I felt like I wasted that wonderful tomato. Harumph. Edited to say that I am going to clean out the freezers this week!
  9. My sis brought me some pasta salad on Friday and what she said was their last home grown tomato of the season. So, last night I had some pasta salad, tomato and a bit of potato salad that I'd made the other day.
  10. I started about 3 different series this past week and found them to be depressing me so I aborted. Last night I started re-watching Northern Exposure on Prime. I hadn't seen it since it was originally out, so it has been a while. I'd completely forgotten how well done it is and how delightful the characters are.
  11. I might finally be getting the hang of cooking for one. A loaf pan fits nicely in the toaster oven with supper for tonight and leftovers for another night. Penne with a little creamy white wine tomato cheese sauce topped with paradise locker (local purveyor) bacon, soffrito and more cheese.
  12. So young!! Wonderful clip, Thanks, @Wilfrid.
  13. I'd cook them if they don't look completely freezer-burned.
  14. Home grown tomato from my sister and some local bacon from a friend meant a delicious BLT.
  15. Yes and a wonderful song she sang, too.
  16. I guess different parts of the country are on different schedules. First day of school is August 14 here--kids have been back from camp for a long time. Mind you, this is vastly different than when I went to school in this area--we started school in September and got out beginning of June. Now they start in August and get out mid-May.
  17. Goodbye to a long-time favorite.
  18. @MitchW, have you had those blends before or did you select randomly? They all sound wonderful. My nose is itching to give them a sniff.
  19. @voyager I'm so glad he has agreed to get some help. You need some rest so you can recover, too! Don't be afraid to ask for help for yourself if you need it.
  20. A friend brought me a little steak pie, veggies and slice of chocolate cherry pie from a local Irish restaurant. I'll be eating well all week.
  21. @Diancecht that cacciatore sounds wonderful!
  22. Good grief that photo came out huge. Sorry!!
  23. Took a huge step. I have had Hemingway, my starter from a dear friend who is longer with us, for a few years and have kept it going even though I haven't baked much the past few years with all the turmoil. I have a bit in the fridge on the off chance that the temp drops below 75 any time soon (ha ha) but I have dried much of it for longer term storage. I just don't see me baking much until I am through with house crap. I call it Hemingway because it was the son of my friend's starter that she grew from scratch. She called hers Kevin. Mine is Hemingway because Kevin's son also rises. Sleep well Hemingway!
