The prix-fixe menu — a nod to the old format and an effort to build more financial certainty into dinner service, Mr. Nasr said — allows diners to choose all three courses, but also means that a table of four ends up with 12 sizable and often heavy dishes, not including salad and bread.

Which Merriam-Webster provides as the definition for dinner.

Sometimes I think we might be getting old.  We look at other tables and notice that we are one of very few tables who are ordering apps, mains and a split dessert.   What happened to my world?!

We went to Le French Diner last night. Started with socca and a green salad.  She had onglet, I had confit.  Ended with a shared panna cotta.

Seriously, this is a flaw in writing restaurant reviews. What are they doing and are they doing it well? Those are the questions, not does it happen to suit me personally? At least, that’s a secondary question.

”Ooh it’s a bit rich, it’s a bit spicy, it’s a bit heavy.” Like reviewing a steak restaurant and complaining about those huge slabs of meat.
