My recs from May still stand, and I would add Katie's in Mid-City for po-boys. Also, I didn't get to go, but I walked by Dakar NOLA, which won best new restaurant at the 2024 JBFA, and the menu and experience look really interesting.
Tapies and Tapas would make a great first date.
I feel compelled to remind you that Besta and Gresca are right around the corner from each other and their small plates formats make it easy (preferable, even) to hit them both in one night. Also, a year later and I'm still thinking about a roasted onion stuffed with octopus from Agreste de Fabio & Roser. (I also think about Casa Maians. Can you tell I'm ready for a return trip?)
Thanks for these recs! It's been a while since I've been, but I'm a big fan of both Schwartz's and Snowdon. 😠my cousin told us to not even bother trying to get into vin mon lapin, but I'd be fine sitting at the bar tbh. I was on the fence about going to one of the Au Pied de Cochon / Joe Beef / McKiernan places, so I'm glad to see you mention Vin Papillon. Good to know about the roads -- luckily I won't be the one driving!
I liked the opener and tend to trust him on the food. I was just surprised by those two things (and style thing is more of an editing mistake than Pete's fault).
I don't know. This one feels pretty sloppy to me. I disagree with the dig at Cote and think it's an oversight to kind of gloss over the efforts of a sommelier like Victoria James. Plus, there's the awkward repetition of "one-dimensional" in the last two paragraphs.
I wouldn't be mad if it went the way of Di Fara. Granted, I've only had an airport slice from them outside of the Midwood shop, but it was better than other airport pizza I've had, at least.
Speaking of franchises, is OG Foxface ever making a comeback?
Has anyone been recently? Haven't been back in a number of years. Missed out on Pujol and Contramar during my last trip, so I figure I should try to get there this time around.
Having visited a couple of months ago, let me also recommend the recently opened Porgy's Seafood Market, which has a brief but well-executed food menu; also Fives, a small cocktail bar in the Quarter with creative takes on standards (like a marrow-washed Sazerac) and a competent kitchen with bistro-esque cooking. Very possible you've been already, but I had never eaten at Compere Lapin or La Petite Grocery and both were pretty fantastic (I love the LPG dining room). Have a great trip!
