Reasons to be Cheerful
bloviatrix replied to Wilfrid's topic in What's that got to do with anything?
Despite it being a very rainy spring and struggling to get games it, plus it being quite cold and wet yesterday, the boy's baseball team played two games of baseball including a 19 -2 blowout in the final to win the West Side Little League's Majors title. Kid went 2 for 3 with a walk and scored 3 runs in the final and his last AB of the season was a scorcher through the middle. After a hockey game this morning, the spring sports season has concluded. Now we get a well deserved break until hockey camp. -

Congrats. Looks like a lovely deck. And being in a ranch is a smart move. -
There's been lots of coverage about the Hockney show in other magazines. The April issue of Vogue devoted about 6 pages to it. Friends who are going to Paris later this month are planning on going.

The babka was a little under-proofed, but still wickedly good. Photo of the frozen cheesecake to follow.

My condolences. It sounds like you were in the perfect place and the music gave you the comfort you needed at a difficult time.

My condolences to you and your wife as well her siblings and extended family. She sounds like she was a special person. You're lucky to have had her. May you have many years to remember her.

The other week I walked past Gotham Bar and Grill. It looks frozen in time, complete with a full bar just waiting for diners to walk in.

Not a city but a region - the American southwest: Bryce, Zion, Arches National Parks.

He was our congressman for a while so I used to see him shaking hands at the greenmarket.

@MitchW's post about the Picasso show and the explanation about the sculpture of the girl jumping rope reminded me that I wanted to share that I recently finished reading Get the Picture: A mind-bending journey among the inspired artists and obsessive art fiends who taught me how to see by Bianca Bosker. Bosker reminds me of Bill Buford in that she engages in totally immersive journalism. When she desired to learn about the art world and how to determine what is good she not only attends art fairs, galleries, etc or talks with collectors, artists, gallerists, and curators; she goes to work in galleries, become a studio assistant, and works as a museum security guard. Along the way she learns about the gatekeepers and the choices that artists make when creating their work. But most importantly, she learns to trust herself and spend time looking - carefully. It's extremely worthwhile reading.

I'm sure I'm not the only one, but eating ramps this year really made me thing about Sneakeater.

I remember that sculpture from the MOMA show in 2016. -
I learned so much from her.

It's not until August but we got tix for The Who at the Prudential Center in August. And we're taking the kid. He became obsessed with Tommy last year and I'm looking forward to doing a deep dive into their catalogue with him over the next few months.

Of course you know this little bit of Elvis Costello trivia.😊

I made pizza too. Mine isn't nearly as pretty. But it's topped with ramp and asparagus so I'm excited.

Have you ever considered using jam?

My car is very much the sports taxi. During hockey season I'm putting at least 100 miles/week on the car just driving back and forth to the rink. I won't even tell you how much I spend on bridge tolls. We drive to lax and depending on the season we have to drive to soccer. And one day a week my husband picks the boy up from school to drive him to baseball practice because it starts at 4:30 and he finishes school at 4:20.

OMG!!! I loved her! I first saw her when she opened for Peter Himmelman at the The Bottom in late '94/early '95 and was smitten. We would try to see her whenever she was in NY and made a point of seeing Fuck Seventh Grade, which was great. Totally crushed.
