You have to live on St. Mark's to appreciate the total nightlife collapse.

I think some of that sort of nightlife moved south of Delancey.  Or at least south of Houston.

Nobody out there late?

Crowded bars and sidewalks are now weekends only, weather permitting. The crazy block between 1st and A Cuomo had to personally shut down during covid now has three high end sushi places, and a cheap one, a pizza from some Chicago michelin ** operation, and only a couple of bars left. Holiday doesn't spill singing drunks into the street at 4am either. Heaven Can Wait is gone and I think is turning into a bar, Baker Falls was kicked out of the Pyramid space and maybe is operating downtown now, I'm not sure. Who even remembers Avenue B?

When it moves it is largely replacing existing venues (see Baker Falls), not creating new ones, and the community board put a hex on the area - initially centered on Ludlow and Rivington but most recently trying to push back on Dimes Square:

p.s. I did this for the community board recently - the dark red is at 50% of peak noise complaints from 10 years ago. Bars and clubs are now 6% of complaints, where NYCHA+neighbor+school etc. are 25%

Yes, in the old Rockwood Music Hall space.

Yep - totally familiar with that push back. I think open streets (for Canal) was recently approved for a much shorter period:  3:00pm-10:00pm, Thursday through Sunday, from April 26 through October 31.

I remember getting thrown out of Rockwood. Not just me. A crowd of us were there to see a band we knew and we would not keep quiet during the rather solemn solo singer-songwriter preceding them. The band got thrown out too.
