  2. is there somewhere I can buy benton’s bacon in manhattan or brooklyn?
  3. I saw shellac a few times. I didn’t know what to make of his recent interviews where he apologies for everything. really like the big black and rapeman records, and a lot of the metal he produced sounds amazing.
  4. he’s old to be able to drink that much, I lost that ability in my early thirties.

I don’t think this place ever had a thread of it’s own but orik and maybe someone else praised it somewhere here, and it was very high up in the wells rankings this year… anyways absolutely killer meal here tonight. I liked everything we had. snails stuffed with pork and snail, egg plant with a sauce of poached egg and soy, terrific prawns with a creamy green peppercorn sauce, and finally intestines, blood sausage, pork belly, tofu, noodles, and fermented rice and pork sausage with a slightly sweet fermented shrimp sauce. really nice tamarind and pineapple drink too. only possible complaint is that they were sold out of half the menu at eight. a bargain at $53 a head.

there’s been some praise of this place here - either on the old site or on a thread for one of their other restaurants - but I was pretty surprised by how little I liked my meal tonight. the cooking is pretty simple, which is fine, but the ingredients weren’t great and the cooking was sloppy. the fried quail was plain and not that well fried, $68 pheasant main had a good sauce but was really, really dry. I liked the scallops in garlic butter well enough, the salad that came with the quail was nice, the red from the btg list was nice, I probably would have liked it more if it was less out of the way for me, etc. the space is really nice and I’m sure it’s the best place for miles and so on. hopefully I ordered wrong.
  7. absurdistan is great
  8. my kid called me and told me that it was very strong at her school (a few blocks from my place) and there was no way the books hadn’t destroyed my amp.

  15. the gowanus whole foods has veal occasionally. union market too I think.
  16. apparently one of their neighbors has it out for them. they did change a bunch of stuff during the pandemic. the stuff in that complaint won’t get fixed easily. really hope they pull through, I love that place and the people who work there are mostly nice. on a more selfish note I really hope next week’s tomb mold shows happen. sumac was so good tonight.
  17. at 8pm on a friday. really maddening.
  18. trillium fort point pale ale - 6.6% abv. trillium, as we all know, is one of the original north east ipa makers that's gone from being trade bait to legal distribution over the last ten years. I haven't had enough of their beer to get a real handle on it, the stuff I had on tap at their boston location wasn't great but I've enjoyed some of the cans I've had over the years. this is one of their early beers and I remember enjoying this last time I had it. it was also the freshest can at the place I picked this up. this one has citra and columbus and tastes mostly like the former - this is a really nice version of the really familiar mix of grapefruit, mango, and pineapple you get with citra that has the right amount of bitterness in the finish along with a hint of some vegetal stuff that's not great. middle recommended.
  19. that article is amazing. I just realized I’ve seen the more woman a couple hundred times.

  22. abomination brewing co love letters from hell milkshake style triple India pale ale with candy hearts, sprinkles, marshmallows, milk sugar, vanilla bean, strawberry, ice cream & artificial colors - brewed at the 12% brewing project in north haven, ct, 9.7% abv. I don’t know what the artificial colors are about, this looks like a typical hazy ne ipa. you wouldn’t really expect it to taste like one, but this more or less works like a triple ipa despite all of the adjuncts. there’s an artificial set of sweet vanilla and strawberry notes, followed by a little bit of hop burn and some lactose. this isn’t as well put together as the omnipollo or mortalis stuff but it’s more or less what I hoped it would be.
