MitchW
Not that I've been in a long time, but every once in a while it's nice to read a nicely written review. So, without much ado... MitchW
Yeah, I was able to read and I certainly don’t have a subscription to that publication.

I went to the FT site and searched for it directly. Nothing about it being a gift article. No big deal. It’s o.k. if I can’t read it. Scrolling down, there was a place to put in my email address to get free access to the newsletter, but clicking there also didn’t work. Wilfrid
Simon’s pdf works for me. Would advise anyone who identifies as a New Yorker to skip the first page.
Sneakeater
I couldn't agree with you more. I hope I don't sound that retarded when I write about London (although I'm sure I do).
Wilfrid
Mm. Probably mentioned elsewhere, a whisky expert from, I think, the south telling an audience that New Yorkers didn’t like to have conversations on the subway. Maybe not pointless rambling conversations with you.

Sneakeater
To be serious for a minute, it seems to me that what ought to be done isn't to take away the pungent pejorative, but rather to change the word that is applied to people who function differently than is deemed "normal" by those with hegemony. Exactly what happened to "idiot" and "moron". Because it seems to me that we have a much greater need to have ways to insult people who deserve it than we have need to continue to apply words that have taken on negative connotations to people don't deserve such connotations at all. It came from the second Vieux Carré. I KNEW it was a bad idea.
