small h Posted January 8, 2025 Posted January 8, 2025 Terrifying. My friend shot this from her guest room: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DEiPXCUSeX7/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== 1 Quote
bloviatrix Posted January 8, 2025 Posted January 8, 2025 Oh god, that's scary. A little too close for comfort. Quote
voyager Posted January 8, 2025 Author Posted January 8, 2025 These wind-driven fires are indeed terrifying. They leap-frog when blowing embers land tens of yards away on tinder (aka houses and foliage, anything combustible). Their speed is incomprehensible. Quote
StephanieL Posted January 8, 2025 Posted January 8, 2025 Someone I once worked with was thisclose to having his house destroyed in one of San Diego's wildfires. The fire literally stopped at the house next door. 1 Quote
hollywood Posted January 19, 2025 Posted January 19, 2025 At this point the Palisades and Eaton fires are being increasingly contained. Various public and private figures are indulging in the blame game to no one's benefit. I now know various folks who have had to evacuate, lost electrical power and 3 who have lost their homes. Another lost a 7 unit apartment building. There are insurance issues for folks who had none and those who were deemed underinsured. But... we are coming back. And volunteerism is very helpful and enthusiastic. Still without thinking too negatively, you have to wonder what the next crisis will be. 1 Quote
