New York City Neighborhood Boundaries

Recommended Posts

Interesting that “Waterside Plaza” (which I’ve never heard of) includes Kips Bay, Murray Hill, and Gramercy Park, as well as Stuy Town and Peter Cooper Village. Our apartment building is not in Murray Hill nor in Gramercy Park, but in-between the two. So…?

I'm not sure where you are exactly, but I used to live at the corner of 2nd Ave and E 22nd St. At the time, there were color-coded maps in cabs illustrating the various neighborhoods. The East Village! Midtown! Tribeca! My neighborhood had no name at all, and its color on the map was gray. So I told people I lived in The Gray Area. Maybe you do, too.

Nobody is disputing that. I am disputing that it gave its name to the neighborhood. And it's down to 3% support on the map now.

In that case I misread your initial post. I thought you weren't aware of the complex. It may be large, but it's NOT a neighborhood.

I would think your location would be considered Gramercy Park.

We’re on the corner of 3rd Ave. and East 24th St.  At some point, there was an attempt to name our in-between area Rose Hill (can’t recall why) but it never took. As for those cab maps, our area was colored brown.

Hmm, it doesn't say Lower East Side unless you point your cursor at it.

@rozrapp I have never heard of Waterside Plaza either. The only Google result for it is an individual apartment building around E. 26th. So that just looks wrong.

A sprawling development (4 towers? plus low rise section) with everything you might need - nail salon, pizza place, gym. I know someone who lives there.

The building was called The Gramercy East, but I and everyone else in it recognized that as aspirational. Common wisdom at the time was that everything within a 10:00 cab ride of the park was considered Gramercy Park. But it's not like I had a key or anything.
