MitchW
Prior to attending this book event last night, I stopped into Scarlet, the new cocktail bar opened in some way, shape or form by Michael Imperioli. Was packed at 6:15 (I couldn't get a seat at the bar, but was seated at a counter-type spot) , but other than about 100 bars within a few block radius, what else is to be found on Amsterdam and 82nd Street? My $28 (after tax and tip) Manhattan was fine, and served in nice glassware. It just made me miss Pegu all that much more. Mitchell101
Before Tatiana we went to The Owls Tail on 75th and Columbus. Nice cocktails and proper service there.
Wilfrid
I've been meaning to go back to Martiny, but it does require a reservation even for the bar to get through the front door. And then there's the new Angel's Share.
bloviatrix
I didn't know about Scarlet and it's in my neighborhood. There are two really good bars focusing on craft beers in that area.

But there's a sign on the door stating that they are seating another party and will be with you momentarily. Just pray it's not pouring out. But back to Martiny. I guess I'll never go, because I just can't deal with having to make a reservation in order to spend $30 on a cocktail.
Wilfrid
I look at it the other way around; at least I am not going to schlep downtown and find there's no room for me.
StephanieL
Wilfrid, when you come to SF there will be many serious cocktail bars at your disposal.

Wilfrid
Sugar Monk is so good. I used to go all the time when I lived five minutes walk away. Now it’s like, OMG, one to two subway stops, other side of the moon.

Wilfrid
I don’t know that Jeremy’s is particularly serious but the more I drink the Elaine Kaufman the more I like it (gin, dry vermouth, absinthe, maraschino, cherry). And the pigs in blankets are addictive, little cocktail franks with the poppingest skin, good pastry, good mustard. Happy hour, five for seven dollars; more challengingly priced at other times. Wilfrid
I visited S&W after and saw those little cocktail chipolatas they are using as pigs. I might need to buy a sack of them (I was looking for currywurst tonight but found none).
AaronS
are the drinks at the sunken harbor club good? am I right to find the decor bizarre?
