I know that isn't the case.

Next time you come to SF, visit some of the old-school places.  You might be able to find sand dabs on the menu.

After weeks of assuring everyone that she would never again have hot peppers this season, the hot pepper vender at GAP had . . . hot peppers.

(She also had late-season dragon's tongue beans that oddly looked better than the smack-in-the-middle-of-season ones did.)

(This is a crazy year.)

Not true. I have photographic evidence of them at the greenmarket in prior years.
