small h
Yum Talay with squid (good, but I need to cut the vegetables smaller). Butternut squash soup, which was too sweet because it’s made out of butternut squash. This is from last night. Tonight I broke that wine glass, and now I don’t have it anymore. ☹️

Wilfrid
Crisp breadcrumbed cod loin with radicchio slaw and no photos. I have only one serving of cheese left (Vacherin), so Formaggio at the weekend.
StephanieL
Morros y Christianos, using the RG Midnight Black beans, plus some frozen spinach as the vegetable side. We've had 2 bags of Anson Mills Carolina Gold rice hanging out in the freezer for nearly a year, so I used that for the rice part. The recipe on the Anson Mills website is a bit fussy--you cook the rice for 15 minutes, rinse it off, then bake it in the oven at 300 degrees for another 10 minutes--but the rice came out well. I'm looking forward to using it in jambalaya.
Wilfrid
Look I made a slaw. Where there never was a slaw. (Radicchio, mayo, capers.)

Just like Better than mom used to make. OK, they do look better than *my* Mom ever made, but that was back in Bombay and a whole other story ... What about my balls? My wife, Queens-Italian-American to her essentials, expressed a desire for these orbs of happiness a few months ago. I read my Hazan and produced some. They passed muster. My mistake was that I mentioned to her family in a group chat that my wife craved meatballs. In October, when we hosted a "cousins dinner" at our Hell's Kitchen digs, cousin after cousin slipped me containers of meatballs (4 dozen from one) with a knowing wink and a secretive whisper, "I know she wants them." Then, of course, my freezer door nudged open after a door slam and all balls were lost.

MitchW
App: Braised big-ass artichokes. Sauce for dipping = mayo, yogurt, mustard, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, s&p. Chicken scarpariello, oven braised as opposed to finished on the stove top. Served over Anson Mills rustic polenta integrale.

MitchW
This was a "use everything you can in the fridge already" dinner. So that can turn into carbo laden stodge. Of the best kind: Soup. Ham, potatoes, mushrooms, carrots, celery, leeks, onions, shallots, tomatoes, green chili. Salad. Little gems, cucumbers, almost decent winter tiny tomatoes.. House-made blue cheese dressing. Jamón serrano (Formaggio Essex) on focaccia (Pain d'Avignon). Happy spouse.
Wilfrid
I have cured pork belly in salt before, but not recently. I saw a pack of cured salt pork in the supermarket, so why not petit salé aux lentilles? The pork soaked overnight. Lentils cooked in chicken stock with carrots then finished with red wine (they drank it, you can't see it) and previously sauteed shallots. I crisped slices of the pork in the shallot oil. Really good and actually didn't need mustard.
StephanieL
Today's dinner will be a simple linguini with (canned) clam sauce. (Local fishmonger was completely out of fresh clams and mussels.)
