voyager Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 Fair enough. Rephrased, there was nothing that I particularly wanted to eat. The cheese was bought in error, as I assumed it was their "Breakfast Cheese" which is a simple brie. I dove deep in the stack to get a chilled one and didn't bother to check the label. I seldom by choice buy a truffled product since I find them disappointing and over-priced. So, wrong cheese in hand, I tried to mitigate my error and at least get a dinner out of the fiasco. It was amazingly not bad. Quote

voyager Posted September 26, 2024 Posted September 26, 2024 An aside, husband is spending some quality time by himself in the country. He calls multiple times a day, most recently a few minutes ago asking about dinner ideas. “You have cottage cheese?” “Yes.” “You could sauté a bit of garlic, add some cottage cheese, black pepper, olive oil, moosh it all together and serve it over pasta.” “…..Sounds awful”. “Could work….” Unsaid, “or not”. Will advise. Quote

StephanieL Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 Because we're experiencing little heat blips in the Bay Area, I made the recipe for Tinned Fish with Warm Beans and Herbs from the latest RG book. It's very versatile--you can use any white bean and any tinned fish--so I made it with the Baby Green Limas and some Spanish sardines in olive oil. Since I added all of the sardine oil, I used both lemon juice (per the recipe) and a little sherry vinegar to cut the richness. Also, a large shallot is a good substitute for the white onion. 1 Quote

StephanieL Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Another hot weekend, another salad: a variation on RG's recipe for Salade Nicoise, using Royal Coronas. No green beans, because we're long past that season, so I threw in an avocado for something green (besides the parsley). Quote
maison rustique Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Did not take pix, but last night my sis made me meatloaf, mashed taters and roasted baby carrots. It was wonderful to have some real food. I even had a tiny taste of wine, but not much as I think pain pills and wine are frowned upon. Quote
StephanieL Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 A kind of coronation chicken-type salad, with packaged sous vide chicken breast (from Roli Roti, a very popular rotisserie chicken truck here), barley, and RG Buckeyes. Quote
