small h
It was implied. Quote “It’s a really weird reproductive strategy, but bats are weird and have a lot of weird reproductive strategies,” said Patty Brennan, a biologist at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts This is obviously the best quote I'm gonna read today. Or maybe all week. Edited November 26, 2023 by small h
MitchW
I never knew it, but evidently millennials (and Gen Z) have "invented" mortadella AND the charcuterie board! Quote With help from the European Union’s labeling laws and the rise of Instagram and TikTok (and their endless charcuterie boards), mortadella is getting a second act in America. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/28/dining/mortadella.html?unlocked_article_code=1.CE0.r9ri.LCBnNZXYTeVp&smid=url-share

bloviatrix
Visited Poster House for the Art Deco show and learned that movable type pre-dates Gutenberg and was actually invented in China in the 11th century. Silk screen printing predates movable type by about a century (also China).

Sneakeater
I've been listening to Astral Weeks obsessively for almost 55 years and only today did I realize that the last song on Side 1 is called "Cyprus Avenue" and not "Cypress Avenue".
Sneakeater
Also, apparently The Beatles wanted to hold your "hand" and not your "ham".
Sneakeater
Seriously, I also recently learned that the song I have heard since 1965 as going, "It's high time you looked right at me", really goes, "My town, my guy, and me". I think that even my 8- or 9-year-old self didn't like to see Lesley Gore abase herself (not that I'm sure I even knew it was Lesley Gore) (which is embarrassing, as I'm a fan). Wilfrid
I wonder when I last listened to Astral Weeks. I do have it. I used to listen to Van Morrison a lot. Maybe I should skip Hinds for a day and try Van instead. I assume Ana isn't reading this. I see I have nine Van Morrison CDs. I might have some vinyl too but that stuff is not in alphabetical order. Sneakeater
"Cyprus Avenue": great song. I can't believe it isn't "Cypress".
Wilfrid
"Conquered in a car seat" is a remarkable phrase. Or maybe it's actually "conkered in a car seat."
