See this is the kind of place Sietsema is qualified to write about.

It's when he writes about ambitious places that he says stupid, inaccurate, and indeed uncomprehending shit (and it's not just Foxface Natural).

So this is what Eater is good for now.

So, just to confirm... he SHOULD write about "ambitious places," or no? You seem ambivalent.Ā

The problem isn't that his judgments about ambitious places are wrong.Ā  The problem is that he has no basis for speaking about them.Ā  He can't support his judgments factually or logically.Ā  He just gets things wrong.

Ā

I still can't quite how you feel about this. šŸ˜Ž

Ā

Seriously though, I have not seen a food critic that doesn't get it wrong. I understand, however, that this issue is close to your heart.Ā

Here's what's wrong with Sietsema.

He's writing about a dinner at an Italian restaurant.

Quote

We . . . asked that the meal be sent out in three courses ā€” apps, pastas, and a single shared main course ā€” and the staff readily complied. (Often despite my request, the second and third courses appear at the same time.)

Yeah.Ā  Cuz you go to shit restaurants.

I think Pete Wells gets it right, mostly.

Meaning, again, not that I agree with him, but that he makes sense and sounds like he knows what he's talking about (about a broad range, too).

Yes indeed. Remember the roller coaster of Frank Bruni?
