I hate how I look in nearly every photo that has been taken of me in my 71 years. I cringe when someone holds up their phone or takes out a camera. If I thought I looked in person like I look in photos, I'd never leave the house. I am just not photogenic.

Every press photo I had to take, the photographer was like..."Smile.....with your face.....Now, try like a normal human smile...."
Steve R.
My wife, who has years in the movie biz, has explained to me that photographs add 50lbs (& subtract hair). Very reassuring. We’re not sure about the properties of mirrors. Edited March 15, 2024 by Steve R.

voyager
Then there's the sprog who looked at GW on the dollar bill and said, "There's Grandma Jess!" And damned if I'm not following in her footsteps. "SMILE!" "This IS my smile!"
bloviatrix
During World War II my dad spent about 18 months working for the British Military Industrial Complex in Egypt. I recently uncovered his letters home and I've started to transcribe them as they're all typed on onion skin paper in a single-spaced format and hard to read. The letters I'm working on are dated from various points in November '43. It's really strange to travel back 80 years and read your father's thoughts about economic development, politics, cameras, the draft, etc when he was 27.
Wilfrid
Somehow my physiotherapist got into the subject of enjoying ethics classes at college. Next thing, I am explaining the problems with mind-body identity to her. Little did she know. (This is the part of the session where I lie still and let her dig into my tissue; small talk required.) Watching a playoff game the other night (down in Nashville, I think), they talked about the ice, and how much cooling equipment they need to use in a rink like that. And I imagine in any number of rinks as pro hockey seasons lasts into June.

They have four rinks - every single one of them is busy. He and his teammates weren't even off the ice and the Zamboni was coming on to clean it for the next group. Their ice quality is excellent. They have a number of Olympic caliber figure skaters training there.

StephanieL
A coyote decided to cross the streetcar tracks on The Embarcadero as I was riding to work this morning. While I know that coyotes have been spotted throughout SF, it was still a weird place to have my first sighting.
