Mitchell101
I’m enjoying about 1/2 of it. Which isn’t a bad thing.
Mitchell101
Meanwhile, some of the criticism (especially from you Megyn Kelly!) is so ridiculous. They have no idea what a song like Jolene is even about. Completely backwards.
Sneakeater
I mean I'm not happy she messed with the lyric thrust of "Jolene". Although the insertion of a bridge certainly didn't hurt.
Sneakeater
Of course the key point is that it's NOT REMOTELY A COUNTRY ALBUM so just shut up about that.

Wilfrid
Nothing against Beyoncé at all, but I wince at all these stories about the first Black woman to top the country charts. Duh, she’s Beyoncé. Taylor Swift would top the R&B charts if she wanted to (maybe she did already, I don’t know). There are terrific Black women working in country/Americana. Hopefully Beyoncé will lift them up. Sneakeater
Even worse, that stuff just misses the point. That’s not what this album’s about Also, the contemporary fixation on chart performance makes me want to puke. MitchW
I saw T-Bone Burnett do an interview, and then sing about 6 songs (5 songs from his new record, The Other Side), at National Sawdust a couple of weeks ago. It was a great evening, and a rare performance in front of an audience...https://www.nationalsawdust.org/event/the-grammy-museum-presents-a-new-york-evening-with-t-bone-burnett This interview in Variety is very similar to what the interview at National Sawdust was all about. Also, the new record is wonderful. Edited May 7, 2024 by MitchW

Wilfrid
I wasn’t paying attention to this today but a friend posted a clip of Dion singing Piaf across the Seine and just wow. Okay, a friend posted a link to this, I am not following the Wu Tang account although it is probably great.

Sneakeater
I'm at a loss to understand why Ingrid Haebler's pianoplaying isn't held in higher general regard. There's a difference between limp and limpid, you know.
