Supper

Got home from theater late, Zabar’s chicken salad tacos, hot sauce and slaw. Mission has now launched zero carb tortillas, they’ve had low carb for a while. Oh and a crayfish taco with soy sauce to finish up the tails.

I got N a Weber portable fire pit for her birthday last year.  It stayed in the box, unassembled, until today, when we finally made a good ol' California Santa Maria tri-tip.  N being South African, she made a proper wood fire.

Rest of the meal:

  • RG's recipe for Santa Maria pinquito beans
  • RG's fresh salsa, using heirloom tomatoes from the farmer's market (they were so juicy I had to strain the salsa a couple of times)
  • Homemade garlic bread
  • Lagunitas IPA to drink
  • S'mores for dessert

Fake Puntarelle Alla Romana; using endive instead.

Fake veal piccata; using chicken instead (and boy, does this make for a quick dinner).  Rice, with broccoli steamed atop for the last 5 minutes, in the Zojirushi.

Egg curry. I've had egg curry at Lakruwana. It wasn't half as good as this, if I do say so myself, and I do.

Seen here with leftover bread from our wedding welcome party, because I do not waste food.

Had these really nice heirloom "cherry" tomatoes along with blanched green and wax beans.

Tossed with a (if I do say so myself) delicious walnut-miso dressing, from Hiroko Shimbo's The Japanese Kitchen cookbook.

What in Spain might be called socarrat, in Japan might be called okoge. My okoge game was strong last night, in this donabe rice with salmon, halibut and hijiki.
