Sneakeater Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 I now have to redefine the way I conceive of myself from someone who does not spatchcock to someone who spatchcoks whenever he needs to. Quote
small h Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 I have a video of my brother-in-law (a pretty buff guy) trying valiantly to spatchcock the Thanksgiving turkey a few years ago. He went through a number of tools. I think the sledgehammer was the final, successful one. Quote
MitchW Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 Poultry shears (good ones) are your friend. Quote
small h Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 Yeah, I don't know why he didn't use shears. It's something my sister is very likely to have. Quote

Sneakeater Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 Especially when you use poultry sheers. Quote

StephanieL Posted October 28, 2023 Posted October 28, 2023 South Africa won their 4th Rugby World Cup! All 3 knockout matches were won by 1 point--quite exciting. Quote
Wilfrid Posted October 29, 2023 Author Posted October 29, 2023 Only match I saw was England losing narrowly. Well done Springboks. Quote
StephanieL Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Thanks to our local Buy Nothing group, we now have an Instant Pot (Cuisinart version) and two Sabatier paring knives. N has successfully made beans and rice in the pot and loves it. 2 Quote

Sneakeater Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 At age 67, I've finally realized what I've been doing wrong up to now in tying bow ties. Quote

Oh today, two adjacent museum-type spaces. In the first, the ticket seller tells me “a senior” and gives me a discount. Okay, I am not arguing. In the second, she says, “You don’t look 65, right?” I tell her muchas gracias and happily pay full price and would send her flowers. 😅 Quote
Wilfrid Posted November 30, 2023 Author Posted November 30, 2023 Good thing I find about otherwise evil social media: quick connections you can make with good people. I went to a panel discussion on a niche literary topic tonight, mainly because a critic I admire hugely was there. A couple of hours later we are messaging about something discussed. 1 Quote
Wilfrid Posted December 7, 2023 Author Posted December 7, 2023 Very careful not to post this in a misleading thread. The truly great and admirable Dick Van Dyke was flickering through various tributes to Norman Lear today. I knew he was still thriving but looking him up I find that we’re celebrating his 98th on 12/21. https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/dick-van-dyke-birthday-special-cbs-1235792308/amp/ 1 Quote

Sneakeater Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 I got this stack of envelopes from an imaging service that did some work on me in connection with a surgery a few years ago. I was terrified that, owing to some insurance mishap, they had decided that I now owe them tens of thousands of dollars. But no: it was only a major data breach they were telling me about. Quote
small h Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 So now the tens of thousands of dollars can just be charged to your credit cards! Quote

MitchW Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 And believe me, I still think I'm going to get bills for hundreds of thousands of dollars for back surgery I had! Where the doctor and his team told me that they take whatever they get from insurance, and that's it. And when I asked if they could put that in writing, they kinda laughed...and said no. Quote
